Richardson Resigns from Valero Energy

SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Energy Corp., operator of some 2,000 convenience stores and 12 U.S. refineries, said former U.S. Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson would resign from its board to focus on his candidacy for the office of governor of New Mexico.

Richardson has been on the Valero board since March 2001. The resignation is effective June 30.

"Valero's friendship with Bill Richardson goes back more than 20 years, and we appreciate all he has done for our company and our country," said Bill Greehey, Valero's chairman and CEO. "We hate to see him leave our board, but we wish him well in his campaign and in all of his future endeavors."
