Racetrac Raises $100,000 for Haiti

ATLANTA -- Racetrac Petroleum Inc., operator of 270 convenience stores based here, donated nearly $103,000 to the American Red Cross in support of the Haitian Earthquake Relief effort. The funds were raised during its Coffee for a Cause campaign, when all proceeds from the sale of 16-, 20- and 24-ounce cups of coffee went to the donation, SouthFloridaCaribbeanNews.com reported.

All Racetrac stores in eight markets -- Atlanta; New Orleans; Baton Rouge, La.; Orlando, Fla.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Tampa, Fla.; Miami and Dallas -- participated in the campaign. The donation will provide tents, hygiene packs, blankets, cooking sets and water containers for more than 5,000 people, the report stated, citing the American Red Cross.

"We had more than 45 employees directly affected by the tragedy in Haiti," Allison Moran, Racetrac senior vice president, said in the report. "To be able to donate such a significant amount to the American Red Cross on their behalf says a lot about our customers. They are the ones who made this donation possible. They are the reason families in Haiti will have ability to cook and serve food, to have clean drinking water, to sleep protected from the elements."

Customers' response was so positive, coffee unit sales were up nearly 10 percent over the same three-day period from the week prior, the report stated.

In other fundraising news, Quick Chek recently donated $1,234 to the Ramsey Ambulance Corps, which represented 25 cents of every sub, sandwich and wrap sold during the Ramsey, N.J. store's first 30 days in operation following its recent grand opening celebration, the company stated.

Located at 40 N.J. State Route 17 North, the new store includes a coffee bar, sub shop, soup bar, bakery items made fresh daily, a no-fee ATM center and 20 fueling stations, according to Quick Chek.

Quick Chek operates more than 120 retail locations in New Jersey and Southern New York, including 12 pharmacy stores and 24 locations with fuel.
