QuikTrip Eyes Growth in Central Iowa

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- QuikTrip Corp., the Tulsa, Okla.-based convenience store chain that operates 618 company-owned stores in 11 states, has opened one of its new Generation 3 larger store prototypes here in West Des Moines.

The store, located at 1451 22nd St., covers about 5,700 square feet with two front and two side building entrances, as well as a larger foodservice area equipped with touch-screen ordering kiosks, according to a blog on

QuikTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh previously told CSNews Online that the Gen 3 concept gives the retailer the flexibility to increase its QT Kitchens products. Foodservice products, including fresh pastries and a growing selection of fresh deli sandwiches, are produced at QuikTrip's QT Kitchens and delivered to the stores.

Like all QuikTrip locations, the new Iowa store is open 24 hours, seven days a week. It is the retailer's 26th c-store in the state of Iowa. Future stores here are also expected to be Gen 3 models.

Thornbrugh confirmed to the Des Moines Register that the innovative c-store leader plans continued growth and that the chain is looking at opening more stores in central Iowa. Earlier this year, Thornbrugh told CSNews Online that QuikTrip expects to open more stores this year than ever before.
