Quick Chek Secures Funding for Green Project

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- With the assistance of Vanguard Energy Partners LLC, Quick Chek secured a federal grant of more than $200,000 in stimulus monies to finance the solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed on the roof of its corporate headquarters here.

CSNews Online reported in July that the convenience store retailer had completed its first renewable energy project: the installation of a 110-kilowatt solar PV system on the roof of its customer support center. The new solar array was expected to generate more than 20 percent of the electricity used at the corporate headquarters during its first year of operation alone. Quick Chek partnered on the project with Vanguard Energy Partners, a renewable energy company based in North Branch, N.J.

"We appreciate the support and guidance we received from Vanguard, which enabled Quick Chek to promptly collect the federal cash grant," Jim Smith, Quick Chek's chief financial officer, said in a statement. "Our solar installation is allowing us to further our commitment to conserving energy and protecting the environment."

Nearly $900,000 has been collected by Vanguard to date for its clients, with other applications in process, the company stated. Vanguard designs and integrates large-scale solar electric systems for businesses, municipalities and utilities, and regularly assists its customers with monetizing solar projects.
