New Black & Mild Premium Products Heading to Stores

RICHMOND, Va. – Following market tests in Ohio and Tennessee last year, John Middleton's Black & Mild brand is launching a national rollout of two new untipped, cigarillo products this month.

The two products -- Classic and Sweets -- are aimed at the more than half of adult cigar smokers who say they are looking for a new cigar to try. Classic is for the adult smoker interested in a class Black & Mild pipe tobacco taste. Sweets offers a more traditional cigarillo taste made from primarily air-cured tobacco, according to a company news release.

As a result of its initial testing phase last year, Middleton, an Altria company, found that there is significant interest and product appeal among both competitive and Black & Mild adult cigar smokers. Specifically, the company learned that of those adult smokers who have bought and tried a Black & Mild untipped cigarillo, most have repurchased it, and of those adult smokers who have bought and tried a Black & Mild untipped cigarillo, one in five say it is better than their regular brand; while three out of four say it is the same or better, the company reported.

The new Classic and Sweets will hit store shelves with a special introductory price. Both products will be available in five-packs and singles.
