MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. is readying a plan to add grocery delivery to its list of services.
Speaking at a meeting of the retailer's annual vendor summit at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Aug. 11, Jeff Jones, Target's chief marketing officer, said the company will pilot the delivery service as the it focuses on what it calls "on-demand shopping," according to the Minneapolis Star Trubine.
"Now I know that term is probably conjuring up images of sitting at home and ordering up movies on your TV — and that's the point," Jones said. "For years, we called it omnichannel or multichannel, which are clearly widely used in the industry. But what the guest is really looking for is being able to shop wherever they want, however they want, whenever they want. It's on demand."
The executive did not detail plans for the grocery delivery service other than to say that Target will be testing one "in the very near future." A company spokesman said the details are still being hashed out, the news outlet reported.
Other retailers are already offering grocery delivery services. For example, Amazon.com Inc. has been expanding its own same-day and next-day grocery delivery service called AmazonFresh in some markets in California, New York and Pennsylvania, the report added.
