Stewart's Promotes Contest Via Facebook
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Stewart's Shops took to Facebook to promote its first Lucky Tape contest of the year.
Customers are encouraged to ask for their receipt, sign the back with their name and phone number, and drop it in a bucket near the cash register at its convenience stores for a chance to win a 42-inch flat screen television.
Stewart's alerted customers to the contest on Feb. 1, via its Facebook page, where some followers noted they hadn't yet heard of the contest from store associates.
The contest ends at the close of business Feb. 7. Two grand prize winners will be chosen Feb. 15.
Elsewhere on Facebook, Sheetz Inc. employee Sylvia Frank is generating buzz with a page dedicated to her, according to a report by The Herald Mail.
A customer who thought Frank should be recognized created the page for her. Frank has been an employee of a Maryland store for 10 years, and since she does not own a computer, she heard about the Internet posting -- which has more than 1,000 members -- from some of her customers, the newspaper reported.
"I'm just in shock. I'm just an average person," Frank told the newspaper.
Bailey Kercheval created the "sylvia from sheetz fan club" on Facebook. Bailey started the page by posting, "I can bet at least 1,000 people in Hagerstown have encountered Sylvia at Sheetz. Rain, shine, sick or fine, this amazing woman always makes her way to work to serve you. You are a member of the greatest fanpage on Facebook. Be proud and pass it on because this woman is a working-class hero!"
Frank told the newspaper she believes she fits the psychological profiles that show people with disabilities tend to work harder than average people because they feel they have to prove to themselves and their employers that they're capable. Frank was born without ear canals and hears with the help of hearing aids.
Frank has two associate degrees from Baltimore Community College. Her résumé includes jobs at four fast-food restaurants, plus Sheetz.
"Most definitely Sheetz is my favorite because of the customers, my employer
and co-workers. I like interacting with customers the best," Frank said.
Store Manager Brent Ball called Frank "quite a lady. She¹s a great inspiration. She's excellent with customers and the customers just love her."
Frank said she likes working at "one of the best and busiest Sheetz" because
she prefers to be busy.
Kercheval put up the Facebook page Jan. 21. "This page speaks for itself: Sylvia is an amazing worker and Hagerstown loves her," Kercheval told the newspaper.
