RaceTrac Looking for Operator in Tennessee

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- RaceTrac's RaceWay convenience store chain is building three convenience stores in Hamilton County and is looking for a local businessman to operate the sites, according to a report by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

The stores will be on Signal Mountain Road, next to Surf’s Up Car Wash and across from Komatsu’s plant; on Amnicola Highway next to McDonald’s; and on Hixson Pike at a site not yet announced, Phil Gura, vice president of legal and general counsel, said in an e-mail to the newspaper.

"We would love to have a local operator in all three sites and are actively seeking applicants," Gura said in the report.

The stores will use RaceWay’s newest design with a masonry exterior and a new interior, Gura told the newspaper. The inside product offerings will be determined by the local operator, based on each neighborhood’s needs, he said.

"Tailoring the offer to the community is key to RaceWay’s success," Gura said in the report.

Atlanta-based RaceTrac owns RaceWay sites and leases the inside operations to independent operators, and a $50,000 deposit is required within three days of being selected as an operator, according to the newspaper. The initial investment is $100,000 to buy equipment and inventory.
