QuikTrip Invests in On-site Clinics

TULSA, Okla. -- To provide a shorter path to care and decrease health care costs, Quik Trip Inc. is investing in Care ATC on-site clinics for employees, according to The Journal Record.

Care ATC is focused on wellness-oriented services that catch illnesses early, Paul Keeling, director of sales for Care ATC, told the paper.

QuikTrip’s Care ATC clinic serves nearly 400 employees in the Tulsa area, and is extending its hours. The company plans to open two additional clinics in Kansas City, Mo., by March, the report stated.

An opportunity to cure something before it gets serious is a tremendous advantage, Walter Smith, benefits manager for QuikTrip, told the paper.

"We are not going to cut back on the health of our employees," said Smith. "The clinics provide better health care and better savings. So it’s a win-win."

A Care ATC on-site clinic requires a $10,000 to $20,000 initial investment by an employer, and monthly costs vary with the employer’s size and the size of medical staff required, according to Keeling.

In other Quik Trip news, the company was selected for this year’s "Best Places to Work" based on surveys submitted by company employees in the Phoenix Business Journal’s 2008 competition.

Rankings were based on employee opinion surveys analyzed by Quantum Market Research of Omaha, Neb., the exclusive research partner for "Best Places to Work" competitions in 40 U.S. cities, according to the newspaper.

More than 100 companies overall were named among the "Best Places to Work," and the winners were announced at a luncheon last week at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix.

Quik Trip made the top five for large companies of between 250 and 2,999 employees. Other winners in the contest category were Harrah’s Ak-Chin, of Maricopa; CB Richard Ellis, of Phoenix; and Pulte Homes, of Scottsdale.
