Pilot Travel Centers, Aloha Petroleum Give Back

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. and HONOLULU -- The Salvation Army got some big help from Knoxville-based Pilot Travel Centers, which presented a check for $47,500 dollars at the Pilot Travel Center in Knoxville, according to VolunteerTV.com.

The money came from the sale of paper red kettles in all Pilot stores in Knoxville, throughout the holiday season.

"Our biggest problem right now is with the economy being so low we're having more people come through our social service, they need help with rent, bills and groceries, so any help we can get at this time, we'd definitely take it," said Sgt. Stan Robison with the Salvation Army Of Knoxville.

The donation will go into a general fund to be used as needed, the report stated. Pilot also helps the Salvation Army with its Angel Tree program.

In other charity news, Aloha Petroleum presented a $5,000 check to the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA), continuing its support for junior golf in Hawaii for the second consecutive year, according to HonoluluAdvertiser.com.

Larry Adams, Aloha Petroleum's director of sales and marketing, presented the check at the Waialae Country Club on Jan. 13, 2009.

"After our great experience with Junior Golf over the past year, we could not pass up the opportunity to continue our support for such energetic and talented youth," said Adams in the report.

Hawaii's youngest golf pro, Tadd Fujikawa, joined Adams for the presentation. "Many of us, especially Tadd, understand the importance of supporting our young golfers here in Hawaii," said Adams.

Along with the $5,000 donation, Aloha Petroleum will continue it's Save-A-$ Club Card offer benefiting the HSJGA, the report stated. New customers who sign up for the Junior Golf Affinity fuel charge card will not only get a 3-cents per gallon discount, but Aloha will also contribute an additional 3-cents per gallon to Junior Golf for every gallon the customer purchases during a 12-month period.
