MFA Oil Co. Awards $2,000 Grant

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- MFA Oil Co., operator of the Break Time chain of convenience stores headquartered here, awarded a $2,000 grant to the Phelps County Fair board, the Rolla Daily News reported.

The money is earmarked for installing an electrical system in a new livestock barn at the fairgrounds, according to the report.

The MFA Oil Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the company, awards grants around Missouri to support nonprofit organizations working to improve communities where MFA Oil has a significant concentration of members and employees, the report stated.

Jerry Taylor, president of MFA Oil Co., told the paper the foundation is a vehicle "that allows our company to give support back to the small towns and rural communities that are the foundation of our business."

The basis for awarding grants depends on three criteria -- programs designed to build knowledge and leadership skills of rural youth; agricultural and cooperative education programs; and organizations active in addressing and solving community problems and improving the quality of life, Taylor told the paper.
