Kwik Trip to Open New Location in North Mankato

NORTH MANKATO, Minn. -- A new Kwik Trip convenience store is slated to open in the former spot of Ray’s Market fueling center here. Smaller than its normal store footprint, Kwik Trip entered into a non-compete clause with its grocery neighbor.

"It’s mainly complementary," Pam Haugum, co-owner of Ray’s Market, told the Mankato Free Press. "There will probably be three products we both sell." Among items not covered in the agreement are bananas, bread and apples, according to the report.

In addition to Kwik Trip, Wells Federal Bank and Video Magic are leasing space in Ray’s, which was formerly the convenience store/gas station portion of the site, Haughum told the paper. The mission, she noted, is to subdivide the 12,000-square-foot building and rent it to as many as five tenants.
