Got Milk? Stewart's Has New York's Best

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- This year's bragging rights for New York's best milk goes to Stewarts Processing of Saratoga Springs, reported New York's Newswatch Channel 50.

Stewarts, operating 317 convenience stores in eastern New York and Vermont, earned the honor in the annual milk quality competition held by Cornell University. The chain beat out its competition with a score of 94.4 out of a possible 100.

Samples are evaluated based on flavor, shelf life, butterfat, bacteria counts and vitamins. Scientists collected more than 400 random samples of milk over the past year from two-dozen of New York's largest milk processors.

Gary Warren, vice president of Stewarts, said the company has been trying to win the award for nine years.

Crowley of Albany and Crowley of Binghamton tied for second, Upstate Farms of Rochester was third and Wendt's Dairy in Niagara Falls came in fourth.
