Circle K Offers $10,000 Reward for Clerk-Killers

VENTURA, Calif. -- Circle K is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing one of its store clerks last week, according to a report by the Ventura County Star.
Sean Odle, 30, was reportedly shot to death at approximately 4:25 a.m. Friday at the Circle K at 3506 E. Main St. in Ventura as he neared the end of his graveyard shift at the store. Investigators believe the killing occurred during a botched robbery. The killers remain at large.

In a short statement, officials at Circle K Stores announced the reward and urged people to contact the Ventura police or Crime Stoppers with any information about the crime. The company also expressed sympathy for Odle's family and has set up a memorial fund in Odle’s honor, according to the newspaper report.

Odle's uncle, Alan, said while he appreciates the company's efforts, he hopes his nephew’s death will spur additional employee safety measures at Circle K. "It's a little too late to help Sean, but maybe it will help other people," he said.

Police this week are following up on leads. Ventura Police Sgt. Rick Murray told the Ventura County Star they are at “the beginning stages" of the investigation.

The store’s surveillance video shows the two suspects in hooded sweatshirts entering the store. The one suspect, in a black sweatshirt, crouches by the door while the other, in a gray sweatshirt, approaches the counter with a rifle. Police believe the gunman exchanged words with Odle before the shooting. The gunman shot Odle once in the chest. Then both men ran out of the store without taking anything, police said.

The video also shows Odle was holding a cordless phone when the men entered the store, and investigators believe he was calling 911 when he was shot.

Odle, who lived near the midtown Ventura convenience store, was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead
