Chevron Houston Marathon Yields Over $1 Million

HOUSTON -- Pulses and heartbeats weren't the only things rising at this year's annual Chevron Houston Marathon event. The Aramco Houston Half Marathon and EP5K made history by collecting more than $1 million for 45 charities that were a part of 'Run for a Reason,' the event’s fund raising program.

"We wanted to break the $1 million mark this year, and we knew, thanks to our great participants, that it was attainable," Brant Kotch, race director, said in a released statement.

The marathon, half marathon, 5K and Kids' Fun Run attracted a record 24,000 participants in 2008. In total, an impressive $1,262,925.55 was raised, which was an increase from last year's $852,000 raised in 2007, and nearly double the $660,000 total in 2006.

"Thousands of them made the commitment to 'Run for a Reason' and their dedication to their causes is reflected in the charity total," Kotch said in a released statement.

The 37th running of the Chevron Houston Marathon is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2009.
