Chevron Continues Marathon Sponsorship

SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Chevron Corp. will continue to be the title sponsor of the Chevron Houston Marathon through 2013, as the company -- which held the title sponsor spot in 2006 and 2007, and is planned to hold it in 2008 -- extended its contract of the 26.2-mile race for an additional five years.

In addition, two other sponsors signed agreements to extend partnerships -- Aramco Services Co., which sponsors the Aramco half marathon, and El Paso Corp., which has returned to the title sponsor spot for the 5K race, called the EP5K, for the next three years.

"We are extremely pleased to have three fine companies as partners in our endeavor to stage three great races for our runners," Brant Kotch, race director, said in a statement. "Their support, both financial and in spirit, help guarantee the races will only get better with every passing year."

Popularity of the races continually increase, with the marathon and half marathon selling out six weeks in advance of the January 2007 event, the company stated.

The Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon and EP5K will be run on Jan. 13, 2008. The Chevron Houston Marathon -- celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2007 -- is a Running USA founding member, and is the nation's premier winter marathon. The marathon attracts participants from across the country and more than 30 foreign countries, the company stated. The marathon is ranked among the top five in the nation by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons for fastest course, organization and crowd support.

"Having two of our title sponsors commit to multi-year agreements, and former sponsor El Paso Corp. back on board for three years, is tremendous for our races and our runners," said Steven Karpas, the event's director of marketing and race development. "They are great companies to partner with and their commitments to the future allow us to focus on ways we can continue to grow and improve the races each year."
