C-store Adopts Retro Strategy: Milk Delivery
MOUNTAIN TOP, Pa. -- Taking a page out of the history books, the Good2Go convenience store here will begin a milk delivery route for its area customers next month, CitizensVoice.com reported.
Delivery customers in 13 communities will have access to fresh milk in glass bottles and ice cream from The Lands at Hillside Farms, along with organic beef from grass-fed cattle, free-range organic chicken and fresh baked bread from local bakeries, according to the report.
"Our basic goal is to bring healthy foods and farm-fresh milk to the people, and give them convenient access to those things," Awais Ahmad, owner of the Good2Go convenience store, said in the report.
Ahmad, along with partners V.J. George and Thomas Job, opened Good2Go in September 2008. When it was opened, the team sold four or five times as much milk in glass bottles as they anticipated, according to the report. Many customers purchasing the milk in the c-store found the experience nostalgic.
"They were saying, ‘You know, this kind of reminds me of when I was kid, and the milkman used to come to our house,’" Ahmad told the Web site.
The idea for milk delivery began as the owners wanted to expand their milk business to other areas without opening more stores, he explained, adding so far, the interest in the program is "phenomenal," with more than 100 families signing up for the program within four days last week.
The delivery service will initially serve Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, but Ahmad said they hope to extend the service to other areas.
