Barney's Convenience Mart Sold
DEARBORN, Mich. -- Armada Oil & Gas Co. purchased J-F Enterprises Inc., the parent company of 10-store chain Barney's Convenience Mart, for an undisclosed price.
The c-store chain originated as Big Barney Auto Wash, the first automated car wash in the area, which opened in 1966. To date, the company employs more than 160 people.
"We had an offer we couldn't pass up," co-owner Marilyn Fox told the Toledo Blade. The Barney's name will remain, but the gas stations will likely switch from CITGO to BP, according to Fox.
Fox plans to stay in the Toledo, Ohio area and operate the Mazie Foundation, which she founded in 2000 to provide support to battered women and children. The other co-owner, Robert Richard, plans on retiring to Colorado.
Armada, the largest BP jobber in Michigan and the third largest BP jobber in the United States, purchased all the stock and operations of parent company J-F Enterprises Inc., which was run by Fox and Richard since 1985. Before that, the company was headed by Fox's father, Joseph Frank Ziemianski, the newspaper said.
