Samuel Adams Rebel Reborn

Brewery's flagship IPA gets new recipe.

Samuel Adams' flagship IPA, Rebel IPA, has been reborn with a new recipe. The reformulation is the result of the brewery’s “Project Lupulus,” a hop experiment launched in 2014 that resulted in a new hop variety exclusive to Samuel Adams called HBC 566. Rebel Reborn features HBC 566, as well as: HBC 682, a hop variety for bittering; and Mosaic hops. Rounding out the components of the revamped Rebel IPA are a few of the original hop varieties, including Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe and Chinook. The brewers also scaled back on Rebel IPA’s malt profile, subbing in Samuel Adams' special two-row malt blend for the caramel malt. Rebel IPA now has a more intense juicy, tropical and citrus flavor supported by a leaner body and a crisp, clean finish to optimize the hop character, according to maker Boston Beer Co. Samuel Adams Rebel Reborn will be available nationwide in early 2017 on draft, in six-packs for a suggested retail price of $7.99 to $9.99, and in 12-packs (bottles and cans) for a suggested retail price of $14.99 to $17.99.
