Spinx Making Strides Throughout South Carolina

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Spinx Co. is building up its presence in its home state, and March is slated to be a busy month for the convenience store retailer.

Spinx is moving forward with the raze and rebuild of its store on Pendleton Street, situated at the entrance to the Village of West Greenville, S.C. The retailer is in the process of securing building permits for the work. When completed, the location will serve as a flagship store and Spinx's newest in the Greenville market. 

The store will feature a community garden, maintained by the Feed & Seed organization, that will offer community programming centered on gardening and urban farming. The store will also feature a sign designed by local West Village artists to welcome residents and visitors to downtown Greenville's art district.

"From the Head Start Farm-To-Belly project to interviews with neighbors Pendleton Place and Smith House, Feed & Seed and Spinx are poised to offer an exciting new 'backyard' to West Greenville's wonderful neighbors. Also in Greenville, the company is renovating its Spinx store on East Washington Street. Renovation plans call for an additional pump canopy with four supplementary fueling positions. Construction is expected to take five weeks. Minimal changes to fuel offerings through the construction period will be marked via signage, according to the retailer.

High on the Lowcountry

At the same time as it's enhancing its Upstate operations, Spinx is expanding its presence into South Carolina's Lowcountry.

Construction is underway for the company's eighth store in the Charleston market, located on E. 5th North St. in Summerville, S.C. This all-new, 6,000-square-foot store is expected to open in early summer.  

In addition, site work for the Spinx store on Old Summerville Road in Summerville is moving along and construction is slated to start next week. This 5,000-square-foot store will be the ninth Spinx location in the Charleston market when it opens near the end of the summer.

The retailer also expects to break ground on its 10th store in the Charleston market next month. The 6,000-square-foot convenience store in Goose Creek is scheduled to open by the end of the year. 

Spinx is not just expanding its footprint; it is also expanding the services it offers at several current locations. This month, Spinx will begin installing electric vehicle charging stations at five Upstate South Carolina locations, one Columbia-area location and one location in the Charleston area. The new charging stations can typically charge most cars in 20 minutes or less, the company noted.

"Spinx has always made it a priority to accommodate its customers and as more and more people buy electric cars and hybrids, recharging facilities have become a necessity to maintain a competitive advantage. Spinx has always been and continues to be on the cutting edge," the retailer stated in a news release.  

Greenville-based Spinx operates more than 70 convenience stores in South Carolina.
