SNK Petroleum Sets Goal to Double in Size by 2020

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. — SNK Petroleum Wholesalers is on its way to doubling the number of sites it supplies by 2020 with the addition of two locations in New York.

In 2015, SNK Petroleum generated approximately 36 million gallons in fuel sales through 25 sites, mostly in New York. Since then, the company has doubled in size, maintaining operations at 50 mostly fee-based locations.

Owner Ali Kirmani said he expects sales in 2017 to reach more than 70 million gallons.

The two latest sites are in Westchester County. SNK purchased one site in Croton on Hudson last year. It refurbished and rebranded the gas station, reopening it in December.

SNK also purchased the second site in Elmsford, refurbishing and rebranding it before welcoming customers on May 18.

The refurbished stores measure 2,000 to 2,500 square feet and offer fresh-food bars, hot foodservice and Green Mountain coffee. Design features include a chandelier, granite countertops and high-end gondolas.

Kirmani entered the fuels business as manager of a gas station in Queens shortly after arriving in New York from Pakistan in late 1995.

He purchased his first Gulf station in 2001. As a branded dealer for Gulf, Kirmani invested in the site and grew the business. Gulf Oil later granted SNK Petroleum distributor status in 2011.

Today, all 50 SNK sites carry the Gulf flag. He focused on buying sites individually or in small numbers, first expanding in his home state with fuel property purchases in upstate New York. The company then expanded into the neighboring states of Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Kirmani's goal is for the Hopewell Junction-based SNK Petroleum to have 250 fuel sites under management, hitting the 300-million-gallon annual sales mark.
