Schnucks Sells Fuel Business to Wallis Oil

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Schnucks supermarket chain is selling its Schnucks Express convenience stores in Champaign, Urbana and Savoy in a move away from the convenience store business.

Cuba, Mo.-based Wallis Oil will run the stores starting May 2, reported the News-Gazette.

The Schnucks supermarkets in these towns are not affected by the change in ownership, and employees at the Express stores will be offered jobs at nearby supermarkets, according to the company.

"We just decided to focus our efforts on the customers of our supermarkets, which is our core business," said Schnucks spokesperson Paul Simon.

The fuel rewards programs currently available at the Schnucks Express locations will continue under the new management.

"The Champaign-Urbana market has been great for us, and we will continue serving customers at those three stores," Simon said.
