Maverik Adds EV Fast Charging Stations to Two Utah C-stores

SALT LAKE CITY — Maverik Inc. added two new fast charging stations for electric vehicles at stores in central and southern Utah, making the convenience store chain part of the "Mighty Five Electric Vehicle Corridor."

The charging stations are located at Maverik locations in Fillmore — about half way down to St. George — and Washington, where drivers get off to get to Zion, according to Maverik Chief Marketing Officer Aaron Simpson.

The unveiling of the charging stations is part of a joint effort between Maverik, the Governor’s Office of Energy Development and Utah Clean Air (UCAIR), reported Fox 13

The Utah Office of Tourism recently gave the Office of Economic Development approval to join its "Mighty Five" national parks campaign. I-15 from Salt Lake City to Zion is now known as the "Mighty Five Electric Vehicle Corridor," according to the report.

The charging stations will allow an electric vehicle to be charged in 20 to 60 minutes.

"We have electric chargers around the valley or people may have electric chargers in their home, but these can be chargers that take a couple hours, a full day, often times in peoples' homes they'll leave them plugged in overnight," said Laura Nelson, executive director for the Governor’s Office of Energy Development.

A quick charge is expected to cost $10 to $12, while a more significant charge would cost $18 to $20, Nelson said.

Salt Lake City-based Maverik operates 300 convenience stores in 10 states.
