TOMBALL, Texas — In yet another move distancing itself post-spinoff from Valero Energy Corp., CST Brands Inc. has diversified its fuel offer by inking a new branding agreement with Phillips 66.
Phillips 66-branded fuel is available at a CST Corner Store location in Tomball, Texas, with more Phillips 66-branded sites to be built this year.
“We are very excited to announce this new opportunity to partner with Phillips 66,” said Kim Lubel, president and CEO of CST Brands, the parent company of Corner Store. “This has been a very good experience and we look forward to working with Phillips 66 as we continue to grow.”
According to San Antonio-based CST Brands, the agreement will provide the ability to share branding space on the fuel canopy to gain increased street-level visibility for its Corner Store brand. The partnership also features a dual-branded fuel canopy, intended to drive traffic to both the fuel pumps and inside the store.
“We are excited about the opportunity to link the Phillips 66 fuel brand with a strong retail operator such as Corner Store,” said Mike Krampf, manager of branded sales for Houston-based Phillips 66. “We look forward to additional opportunities to strengthen our branded presence in the Houston market and beyond with CST.”
The new Tomball store spans 4,650 square feet. It features a large, spacious format with eight fueling stations and a diesel truck island.
This location is one of 45 to 50 new-to-industry convenience stores CST Brands expects to build in the United States and Canada in 2015.
Earlier this year, CST Brands also added the Shell brand to its fuel offer with its acquisition of 22 Timewise stores in San Antonio and Austin, Texas.
CST Brands Inc. operates nearly 1,900 convenience stores in the U.S. and Canada. It also owns 100 percent of the general partner interest of CrossAmerica Partners LP.
