BPAMA Teams Up With RINAlliance for RFS Solution

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The BP Amoco Marketers Association (BPAMA) joined the RINAlliance in an effort to meet the needs of the renewable fuel standard (RFS) and better compete in the market.

The RINAlliance – founded in 2007 -- serves hundreds of petroleum marketers with renewable fuel blending and Environmental Protection Agency compliance matters through the use of proprietary software and dedicated specialists. It also provides turnkey compliance and marketing solutions.

"The RINAlliance program has provided a simple and profitable way to manage and market our RINs [renewable identification numbers]," said Jim Mulgrew, president of Mulgrew Oil and chairman of Savannah, Ga.-based BPAMA. "Its technical expertise and focus on compliance provides us the highest level of risk management while increasing profits."

The RFS requires refiners to use 13.8 billion gallons of ethanol this year and 15 billion by 2015. Ethanol is typically combined with gasoline in a formula of up to 10 percent, which is referred to as the blend wall.

"BPAMA believes this new partnership will unlock the doors of the RFS and allow our marketers to better compete in the market," said Walter Clements, president of BPAMA. "The experts at RINAlliance understand the needs of renewable fuel blenders and we plan on tapping this resource to the greatest extent possible."

BPAMA is a non-profit organization dedicated to representing the collective voice of BP jobber marketers. It is comprised of nearly 300 BP-branded marketers representing 9,000 locations.

As CSNews Online reported, the Petroleum Marketers Association of America also joined the RINAlliance in March.
