Petro Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Iron Skillet Restaurants

WESTLAKE, Ohio — TravelCenters of America LLC, operator of TA and Petro Stopping Centers branded travel centers, is holding a 40-day celebration to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Petro and Iron Skillet restaurants. The celebration kicked off April 22 and will run through May 31 at all Petro locations.

Petro was founded April 22, 1975 in El Paso, Texas, as a full-service truck stop before it expanded nationwide and was acquired by TravelCenters in May 2007.

During the 40-day celebration, all Petro Iron Skillet restaurants — known for their buffets, breakfasts and wide assortment of comfort food — are celebrating by offering diners complimentary birthday cake and commemorative pins, while supplies last.

Additionally, every day from April 22 through May 31, UltraONE and UltraONE Expediter members who swipe their card at a Petro location kiosk will be randomly selected to win one of a variety of Petro travel store, full-service restaurant and truck service prizes.

“A lot has changed since 1975 when Petro began, but our homestyle cooking and fast and friendly service hasn’t,” said Tom O’Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters. “We want to celebrate the past 40 years by giving back to professional drivers who give so much each day on the road.”

CELEBRATING MOTHERS, TOO

Apart from its 40th anniversary celebration, TravelCenters also honored professional women who make a living on the road by inviting mothers and women everywhere to enjoy a complimentary meal on Mother’s Day.

On Sunday, May 10, women drivers could show their valid commercial driver’s license to their restaurant server prior to ordering and receive one free meal (a $15 value) at any of the 170 participating Iron Skillet, Country Pride and other full-service restaurants within TA and Petro Stopping Centers locations.

“We know it’s hard for many female drivers to be away from their home and families on Mother’s Day,” O’Brien said. “We want to celebrate them and help make their special day a little brighter by showing our respect for everything they do, both on and off the road.”

Westlake-based TravelCenters of America operates 251 full-service locations in 43 states and Canada.
