Sheetz Opens Second-of-Its-Kind Campus Concept

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Sheetz Inc. opened its second convenience store without a gas station on Sept. 22 in downtown State College, reported the Centre Daily Times. Located near Penn State University at 129 S. Pugh St., the store features a beer cave and casual dining options.

"This location is ideal for Sheetz, in the heart of downtown State College," the company said in a statement. "It will be within walking distance for students of Penn State and a great place for locals to enjoy Sheetz food in a convenient location."

The gas pump-free store follows the spring opening of Sheetz' first college campus-adjacent store in Morgantown. W.Va., near West Virginia University. Development of the concept took two years, as CSNews Online previously reported.

Sheetz signed a five-year lease on the space with an option to continue the lease beyond that time period.

"They're a great local family with a name that's synonymous with quality fresh, wholesome food, and they've built something that they want to keep growing," Tony Sapia, whose family owns the building, told the news outlet. "They have something unique that they'll offer, and it's a great addition to the downtown community."
