QuikTrip to Build $21M Bakery

BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, Mo. -- Published reports reveal that QuikTrip Corp. plans to spend $21 million to build a bakery here that will supply fresh-made doughnuts and foods to its stores nationwide.

The plans were announced at the town's board of alderman meeting by Mayor Marty Rudloff. He noted the plans are the "largest industrial and commercial venture in the city's history."

Called QuikTrip Kitchen, the facility -- which will employ more than 100 people -- will be located near a QuikTrip and be built on a 12-acre site already zoned for the facility, according to reports in STLToday.com. The facility will open in mid-2008, the report stated.

"We were looking for a city with enough land," Alan Renner, real estate manager for QuikTrip, told Suburban Journals. "We've also has a good relationship with Bellefontaine Neighbors for a long time."
