New Summit Addresses Profitability of Small- and Medium-Sized C-Store Retailers

NEW YORK -- Winning strategies and tactics for maximizing the profitability of small- to medium-sized retailers will be the subject of a day-long event next month in Houston.

Presented by Sam's Club and CSNews for the Single Store Owner, the Small Retailer Summit 2008 will be held Thursday, July 24, at the Holiday Inn Select on Southwest Freeway in Houston. Speakers will help small retailers benchmark their financial performance against industry averages and instruct them on how to improve employee retention, succeed with new products and improve their balance sheets.

Presenters include:

-- Debra Chanil, director of market research, Nielsen Business Media Retail Food Group, will help retailers benchmark their sales, margins and product category performance against other small retailers and the industry at large.
-- Richard P. Leslie, vice chair, administration for The Score Association, will advise retailers on keeping their good employees longer, understanding their true needs and hiring smarter.
-- Sarah Collins, senior category development manager for Wrigley, will provide ideas for small retailers to better manage and success with new products.
-- Terry Monroe, president of American Business Brokers, will discuss how smaller convenience retailers can improve their balance sheets, and make their businesses stronger and more attractive to lenders and investors.
-- A panel of single-store owners will share their success stories.

The Summit will conclude with an opportunity to tour the Sam's Club Business Center. Mars Snackfood is also a sponsor of the event.
