Flash Foods Deploys Online ATMs

WAYCROSS, Ga. -- Flash Foods has deployed Precidia Technologies' EtherDial product in connecting ATM machines to the company's wide area network (WAN).

BellSouth provides the network transport and equipment for Flash Foods' extensive frame-relay network, creating a WAN environment that allows ongoing data communication between the convenience stores and the company headquarters location in Waycross, Ga. As part of its solution for Flash Foods, BellSouth worked closely with Precidia to meet the specific networking needs of integrating the company's ATM network.

Between July and December 2003, Flash Foods, which operates 163 convenience stores throughout Georgia and northeast Florida, rolled out the EtherDial as part of its corporate strategy to IP enable its stores. Like many in the industry, Flash Foods is looking to technology to increase profitability through the cost and operational efficiencies made possible by networking.

"Using the EtherDial, we were able to connect older, legacy ATMs directly to our company WAN, and eliminate the costs associated with dedicated dial lines," said Jenny Bullard, CIO of Flash Foods.

A key factor in selecting the EtherDial is its simple plug-and-play capability. Ken Wade, director of store automation, said, "We were attracted to the Precidia product because we can quickly configure the device and interface to the ATM. Furthermore, its low maintenance makes it a no-worry option."
