Fisher-Rex Sandwiches Recalled

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Select prepackaged sandwiches by Fisher-Rex Sandwich Co. have been recalled, as they may contain listeria, according to a report by The Associated Press.

The sandwiches, sold at convenience stores, gas stations and other retail stores in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia, are identifiable by a seven-digit code, beginning with 01.

Products from the company with a five-digit code are not subject to a recall, the report stated.

Listeriosis is a serious infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium, and affects primarily persons of advanced age, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which was cited in the AP report.

No illnesses related to the products have been reported so far.
