CSNews Holds Community Outreach Awards Dinner

HOUSTON -- Convenience Store News held its First Annual Spirit Awards for Community Outreach awards dinner here Wednesday, Nov. 4, to celebrate convenience store retailers who are involved in community service programs aimed at bettering the lives of those in the markets they operate.

A total of 30 people attended the dinner, including honorees Tony Kenney of Speedway SuperAmerica, Steve DeSutter and Sam Susser of Stripes, Mark Romano of Pilot Travel Centers and Scott Hartman and Tim Rutter of Rutter's Food Stores.

Stripes, the retail arm of Corpus Christi, Texas-based Susser Holdings, was named the winner of the Grand Spirit Award for Community Outreach. Other winners included:

-- For companies with one to 99 c-stores: Rutter's Food Stores
-- For companies with 100 to 499 convenience stores: Pilot Travel Centers
-- For companies with 500-plus c-stores: Speedway SuperAmerica (SSA).
