DALLAS – 7-Eleven Inc. will celebrate the unofficial holiday of National Hot Dog Day on Wednesday by offering its quarter-pound, Big Bite all-beef hot dogs for $1 each. The dollar dogs are available at participating stores all day while supplies last.
Hot dog fans can build the Big Bite of their dreams using a wide variety of toppings, such as hot chili, melted cheese, onions, relish, diced tomatoes, pickles, mayonnaise, sauerkraut, jalapeños, salsa, pico de gallo, ketchup and mustard, all for free. Regional favorites include brown mustard and sauerkraut in New York, chili in Kansas City, cheese in the South, jalapeños and pico de gallo in Texas, mayo in Los Angeles, and chili and cheese in the Big Bite hot dog-eating capitol of Washington, D.C., the retailer said.
Select Chicagoland stores will also offer sport peppers, dill pickle spears, sliced tomatoes, celery salt and poppy seed buns to create an authentic Chicago-style experience, and in Monsey, N.Y., 7-Eleven will keep kosher and offer hummus, sweet peppers and garlic mayo as toppings exclusive to the town's store.
July was designated National Hot Dog Month in 1957. The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates that Americans eat more than 20 billion hot dogs each year, with nearly 40 percent consumed during the peak hot dog season between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
"Hot dogs in summertime are as American as baseball, lemonade and, well, 7-Eleven, of course," said Nancy Smith, 7-Eleven's senior vice president of fresh foods and proprietary beverages merchandising. "Not only is July National Hot Dog Month, it's also the month when 7-Eleven sells the most Big Bite hot dogs."
In addition to the hot dog deal, 7-Eleven is still celebrating its birthday with 7-Eleven Week and will offer a Big Gulp soft drink as Wednesday's free item. Customers can simply show the bar code found in the "What's in Store" section of the 7-Eleven mobile app to redeem the free offer.
