    7-Eleven Issues Proclamation of 'Hot Dog Bill of Rights'

    Customers entitled to freedom of customization.

    DALLAS — 7-Eleven Inc. proclaimed a "Hot Dog Bill of Rights" for consumers based on its 40-plus years of experience providing a hot dog standard modeled on "freedom of choice."

    On an annual basis, the convenience store retailer sees more than 80 million hot dog sales at its 7,900-plus stores.

    The 7-Eleven Hot Dog Bill of Rights includes:

    • The right to buy a tasty, 100-percent beef hot dog 24/7, 365 days a year.
    • The right to customize one's hot dog with a variety of toppings, including free chili and cheese.
    • The right to a quarter-pound Big Bite and Big Gulp combo for $2 at any time of day.
    • The right to believe in totally made up, but totally tasty constitutional rights.

    In a 2014 online consumer survey conducted by Nielsen Consumer and Shopper Analytics that compared more than 10 retailers offering hot dogs, 7-Eleven was rated the highest as "favorite place to buy hot dogs," with taste cited as one of the primary reasons, 7-Eleven noted.

    "7-Eleven is clearly America's choice for hot dogs. Our customers get more bang for their buck, more topping options and tasty 100-percent beef — small wonder we sell a Big Bite hot dog every 2.7 seconds of the day," stated Dennis Phelps, vice president of fresh food and proprietary beverages for the c-store retailer. "While we relish the competition, we are confident that this monarchical outlier has a long way to go to 'ketch-up' with 7-Eleven's All-American hot dog."

    7-Eleven invites consumers to join the conversation online and share how they top their Big Bite hot dogs by posting with the hashtag #hotdogdemocracy on social media.

    "We're 7-Eleven … and we approve of this message," Phelps said.
