7-Eleven to Give Away New Brew

DALLAS -- Participating 7-Eleven stores in Arizona will give away free 12-ounce cups of the chain's new strong coffee, Exclusive Bold, tomorrow from 10 a.m. to midnight, the company stated.

Citing a change in American's coffee taste preferences toward strong and dark, especially with teens and young adults, 7-Eleven is introducing the new blend, which is the strongest coffee ever sold in its stores.

As part of the promotion, all flavored syrups, toppings, creamers and sweeteners are free, the company stated.

While 7-Eleven was the first retailer to introduce coffee to-go and sells 1 million cups of coffee daily in its North American stores, the chain has seen coffee-drinkers' tastes change in the past 40 years of its existence, and as a result, has changed its offerings, according to the company.

Exclusive Bold answers the desire for a coffeehouse-strength coffee without coffeehouse prices, the company stated.

In other 7-Eleven news, the company is commemorating National Breast Cancer awareness month and raising money for education, prevention and treatment for the disease by partnering with YMC Records for a second time to offer an exclusive compilation CD in participating 7-Eleven stores. The CD features nationally known recording artists, many of whom have faced cancer personally or within their families, the company stated.

Called "Songs of Hope," the 12-song CD features songs by breast cancer survivors Olivia Newton-John, Carly Simon and Amy Holland, along with nine other recording artists. The suggested retail price is $8.99. For every CD sold, the chain will donate $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Other artists include Kenny Loggins, Earth Wind & Fire, Lindsay Lohan, the Beach Boys, Marilyn McCoo, All 4 One, David Pack, Courtney Now and Birtles Shorrock Goble.

"Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month is especially important and meaningful to 7-Eleven because it impacts so many individuals and families, including many of our own employees and franchisees," Nancy Lear, 7-Eleven community relations manager, said in a statement. "With one in eight women at risk of being diagnosed in their lifetime, the U.S. has the highest incidence of breast cancer in the world. By raising awareness and funds for this cause, we can do our part to support early detection, treatment programs and research for a cure."

Other exclusive fundraising products include a Pink Soft Touch 16-ounce Refillable Coffee Mug, which sees a portion of the sales proceeds donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The mug sells for $6.99 and is available while supplies last. In addition, Hand-decorated Pink Ribbon Cookies are also available during October, which retail for $1.99, and 50 cents of the sale of the giant sugar cookies will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the company stated.

In addition, the chain is carrying pink products from national manufacturers that will make a donation for every item sold, including special edition TicTac mints, M&M candies and Frito-Lay Sun Chips.

7-Eleven also partnered with YMC Records, a division of Dallas-based World Digital Media Group LLC, to raise funds during Military Appreciation Month in May, where the two companies combined for the "Support Our Troops: Support Their Sacrifice" promotion CD, where sales benefited the USO, the company stated.
