Wawa Sponsors 2010 Environmental Community Service Award

WAWA, Pa. -- Wawa Inc. is joining area television station NBC 10 and an environmental law firm to support the Annual Environmental Community Service Award, which raises awareness of environmental concerns and recognizes middle and high schools in the Delaware Valley for their efforts in environmental service projects.

Each year one high school and one middle school receive a $5,000 honorarium to further their environmental programs. The applications for this year's award are available online at the convenience retailer's Web site, www.wawa.com, as well as at www.nbc.com and www.mgkflaw.com, law firm Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox LLP's site. Applications must be signed by a school official and submitted by Feb. 26, 2010. Winners will be announced prior to the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22, 2010.

In 2009, Interboro High School in Prospect Park, Pa., was recognized for its kindergarten student-mentoring program involving the environment. St. Francis Xavier School in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia won for its creatively designed "art garden" reflecting themes from its neighbor, the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
