United Supermarkets Expands New Gas Concept in Texas
LUBBOCK, Texas -- United Supermarkets is expanding its Market Street supermarket concept that features a gas station, in Allen and Frisco, Texas, after the company saw success with the design at the McKinney location, reported Inside Collin County Business.
"We plan to include a research and development kitchen, training facility and conference space at the Frisco store as well," said Dan Sander, CEO of United Supermarkets. "The store will have all the bells and whistles of recently constructed Market Street stores, including a fuel station, drive-thru pharmacy, and 'A Taste of Market Street,' which made its debut at the company's new store in Lubbock."
A Taste of Market Street concept is a new offering for the company, which features a fuel station within the location's parking lot. It also features a smaller store near the pumps that will offer fresh produce, gourmet meals to go, the company's Peet's Coffee, a bakery and other products. However, it is not to be confused with a convenience store, the company stated.
"But the exciting thing is that it will be offered with the convenience of a drive-through window," said Wes Jackson, chief merchandising officer. "Now that's ultimate service. This is all part of our ongoing effort to help people find solutions to living well in their busy lives."
Currently the Allen, Texas location is under construction, and the Frisco, Texas store will open in 2008. Company leadership now sees the region, which began as a test to market the concept, as an area of opportunity for the brand.
"We would have not looked further into the Collin County market if the McKinney store had not been a success," Eddie Owens, director of corporate communications for United Supermarkets, told the paper.
The location in Frisco, Texas will break ground in 2008, and will feature a mezzanine level, similar to other locations, the paper stated.
