A Taste of Columbia at Wawa

WAWA, Pa. -- Beginning yesterday, all of Wawa Inc.'s 570 c-store locations began featuring Columbian-themed decorations, including burlap bean bags and colorful serapes hung from coffee icons in the stores, to celebrate the chainwide addition of 100 percent Columbian coffee to the retailer’s already-popular coffee offering.

The Columbian coffee, which is widely hailed for its rich, medium body and creamy flavor, and is made from Arabica beans grown and cultivated in the Columbian mountains, became available in all of Wawa's stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia beginning the week of Feb. 11.

Associates are wearing special promotional T-shirts, with the campaign theme, "No Passport Required -- 100% Columbian" proudly displayed on the front and back.

"So many people come to Wawa to start their days with the perfect cup of coffee they've come to rely on," Howard Stoeckel, Wawa president and CEO, said in a company statement. "At Wawa, we are constantly striving to provide our customers with exciting choices that please all people's palettes, and our new 100 percent Columbian coffee gives our customers a new, exceptional variety to try."

Wawa's extensive coffee lineup now includes its proprietary Regular, Decaf, Varietals (Kona, 100% Columbian), Vanilla Cream, Chocolate Macadamia, Hazelnut, Decaf Hazelnut, Chocolate Carmel, and dark roast for those who prefer stronger intensity. The Wawa hot beverage offering also includes hot specialty beverages such as lattes and cappuccinos, giving the retailer's customers a full range of choices.

Currently, Wawa brews more than 195 million cups of award-winning coffee each year. Since 2000, Wawa has sold more than 1 billion cups of coffee, the chain reported.

"At Wawa, coffee is more than a hot beverage," said Stoeckel. "It's a way of life."
