Sheetz, Pittsburgh Steelers Support Special Olympics

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. and the Pittsburgh Steelers joined forces to support the Special Olympics in a special way—hosting a ‘Win Lunch with James Farrior’ contest, which winner Melissa Petrosky of Bethel Park, Pa., just collected on.

Petrosky was chosen out of thousands of Sheetz customers and Steelers fans who entered the contest in hopes of meeting Steelers linebacker James Farrior, Sheetz reported.

The contest was held in Sheetz stores in Pennsylvania and West Virginia from Nov. 16 to Dec. 27, 2008. Sheetz teamed up with the Steelers to support Special Olympics. Throughout the contest, Sheetz donated 10 cents for every specialty made-to-order Sheetz Bros. Coffeez purchase to the Special Olympics organizations in each of those states.

"Here at Sheetz, we are big supporters of the Special Olympics and we are grateful that the Steelers have offered their support in building awareness of how wonderful this organization truly is," stated Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing for Sheetz. "We are pleased to say that throughout this promotion, we were able to raise over $36,000 for Special Olympics Pennsylvania and West Virginia."

Sheetz has been involved with Special Olympics since 1992. To date, more than $1.5 million has been given to Special Olympics Pennsylvania. In addition, $500,000 in financial and in-kind contributions has been donated to Special Olympics programs in Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. Sheetz employees have also produced and catered thousands of lunches for Special Olympics' events and actively volunteer their time to help with summer and winter games.

A check presentation for this recent donation took place on Monday.
