Sheetz to Offer Outdoor Self-Service

ATLANTA -- In a move intended not only to improve service, but also to advance the company's food brand perception with consumers, Altoona, Pa.-based convenience store chain Sheetz Inc. is extending self-service ordering to the outdoors.

After limited store tests over the past two years, Sheetz has decided to install outdoor self-service kiosks from Radiant Systems Inc. at the fueling island at all new and some existing stores. The Radiant outdoor kiosks enable the Sheetz order-at-the-pole program, which gives customers the option to order everything from Sheetz Bros. Coffeez Espresso Bar items to custom-made sandwiches and burgers while filling up. Radiant's self-service kiosks are touchscreen systems that guide customers through a series of automated steps to select their food order, customize it and double-check it for accuracy before submitting it to the kitchen staff.

"By offering made-to-order food at the fuel island, we're adding speed and convenience for our on-the-go customers, further differentiating our unique offering and delivering on our mission of total customer focus," said Stan Sheetz, president of Sheetz Inc. "Also important is that Radiant outdoor kiosks emphasize the Sheetz food brand beyond the four walls of the store, bringing the message to customers who most need to see it -- those who depend on Sheetz for gas, but not food."

The kiosks feature 15-inch touch screens, weather-resistant enclosures and protected receipt printers. The kiosk is also designed to allow features such as debit PIN pads and magnetic stripe readers for credit, debit, loyalty and gift card processing.
