Sheetz Expands Presence in North Carolina
ALTOONA, Pa. -- Convenience store operator Sheetz Inc. opened a new location in Statesville, N.C., building on the chain's portfolio in the state, and bringing the number of Sheetz stores there to 15, the company stated.
The store, located at 1244 Wilkesboro Highway, brings the chain’s total number of stores to 344. The doors officially opened to customers Wednesday evening, and employees will host a grand opening celebration featuring a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 20, according to the company.
As part of the grand opening ceremony, Sheetz will make a donation to the Statesville Recreation and Parks Department for its youth athletic programs, the company stated.
"We are thrilled to join the Statesville community and be a part of the events that are important to them," Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing for Sheetz, said in a statement. "Sheetz has a long tradition of being involved in youth-centered activities so today, we are happy to make a commitment to Statesville to support educational and athletic programs for children of the community."
The new store in Statesville features cold and toasted subs, a variety of salads, along with french fries, onion rings, chicken fingers and burgers, the company stated.
The store will also feature its full-service espresso and smoothie bar and Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, which is staffed by a trained barista. There, customers can order hand-made specialty coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and mochas in a variety of ways -- hot, frozen or iced, the company stated. In addition, frozen fruit smoothies are available.
For on-the-go customers, the store features premium brewed self-serve coffees made from 100 percent Arabica beans in a variety of flavors -- Breakfast Blend, Serious Dark Roast, 100 percent Colombian and Vanilla Nut Cream.
Customers place their food and specialty coffee orders at touch-screen order kiosks inside the store, according to the company.
The store also features a surcharge-free ATM and a variety of retailer gift and phone cards for the convenience of busy customers, the company stated.
In other new store news, Kwik Trip readied a new store in Fairmont, Minn., earlier this week for the opening yesterday, reported the Sentinel in Minnesota.
Customers have already stopped at the location to fill their tanks or buy in-store items, store leader Deanna Shaikoski told the paper. "We're anticipating a huge turnout," she said.
The store offers 12 fuel dispensers, with a separate diesel station on the south side and a single-bay carwash to the north, according to the paper. E85 will be available, along with two different grades of diesel fuels, the report stated. The store employs 25 workers. The store is an all-brick structure and is larger than a typical gas station, the Sentinel reported.
The store will also offer fresh fruits and vegetables --including bananas, onions and potatoes all 29-cents per pound -- fresh bakery items; a hot food island with soups, hot dogs, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pizza and breadsticks. For beverages, milkshakes, a soda fountain and Cafe Karabu coffee stations featuring different coffee flavors and 10 types of cappuccino, also are available.
"We want to be the neighborhood store," Shaikoski said.
