Sheetz Coming to North Manheim

NORTH MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- This spring, a new Sheetz convenience store will open here at Route 61 North and Manheim Road, the Republican Herald reported.

The location, which the company is leasing, offers much of what the chain looks for in a store site, Monica Jones, public relations manager for Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz Inc., told the paper. Currently, the site is being examined for any demolition or excavation that might be needed before the foundation is laid, she told the paper.

"We have real-estate site locators who are always out scouting new potential store locations," she told the Herald. "We try to put our stores near a main artery or interstate where we would see high-traffic volumes. We also look at what else is nearby, like a school campus, where we would draw business from."

The store -- which is expected to open in mid-March, depending on the weather -- will feature the same offerings as other Sheetz locations, including gas, made-to-order food and grocery items, as well as some new services and a new design, the report stated.

"This store will be one of our newer model store designs," Jones told the paper. "It will feature our new Sheetz Bros. Coffee and a full-service espresso bar as well as new Made-To-Order [items] like burgers, chicken fingers, onion rings -- a wealth of new menu items."

Once complete, the store will offer several new job opportunities to the area, the report stated.

"Typically, at a store of this size, 30 to 40 would be full staff," Jones told the paper.

There is an existing Sheetz store approximately six miles away, however Jones told the paper it is not uncommon for the chain to have stores in close proximity, the report stated.

"We have several areas that have stores in such close proximity," she said. "If we feel the community can support a second location, or if the traffic justifies a new location, and this is the case in Schuylkill Haven, then we will add a new store."
