Rutter's Launches Rewards Card, Redesigns Web Site

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter’s Farm Stores is allowing its customers to lower their fuel costs with the introduction of its free Rutter’s Rewards card.

With a tagline “See the Icon, Buy the Product, Earn the Reward!” Rutter’s Rewards customers can earn cents off gasoline each time they purchase items bearing a special display icon at Rutter's convenience stores.

The convenience retailer gave as an example the daily purchase of a Rutter’s breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee for a week, which could earn a 10-cent per gallon discount.

“We’ve seen from the tremendous response to our gas giveaways and from rising gas prices in recent years that making fill-ups as affordable as possible is really important to our customers,” Scott Hartman, president and CEO of Rutter’s Farm Stores, said in a statement. “Rutter’s Rewards will provide savings year-round whenever customers use their cards on items they would buy anyway. It’s our way of thanking them for being loyal to Rutter’s.”

Most items will carry a 1-cent per gallon reward, and can be accumulated over multiple items. There is no limit to the dollar amount customers can earn, and rewards are good for 60 days from the date they are earned.

All grades of gasoline, plus diesel and kerosene, are eligible for redemption of rewards, the company stated.

In addition, Rutter's Rewards customers can win prizes when they register their cards. Every day for four weeks starting Sept. 25, one registered customer will win a $100 Rutter’s gift card. And at the end of the four weeks, one registered customer will win free gas for one year, Rutter's stated.

Customers can sign up at any Rutter’s store, and can register their cards online at RuttersRewards.com or by returning the application to any Rutter’s store.

In other Rutter's news, the chain revamped its Web site -- www.rutters.com, with more features, social networking abilities and tools for its customers.

“You still have to visit one of our stores to get the true Rutter’s experience or to eat one of our great sandwiches,” Jeff Leedy, senior vice president of marketing and chief customer officer of Rutter’s Farm Stores, said in a statement. “But the new-and-improved rutters.com will cement the bond that we have with our busy, mobile customers in between their store visits.”

On its site, customers can download a free Rutter’s iPhone application or Rutter’s ringtone; connect to Rutter’s profiles on Facebook and Twitter; sign up to receive the latest specials and promotions via text message; and view Rutter’s gas pricing provided by GasBuddy.com, which Hartman expects will be a big draw.

The GasBuddy component was developed through a relationship with GasBuddy Retail Solutions Inc. For iPhone users, the free Rutter’s application by GasBuddy locates the nearest Rutter’s stores and store-observed gas prices, according to the company.

“The insights and vision of Rutter’s leadership have helped us develop a Rutter’s iPhone and other mobile phone applications that are clearly best of class in the convenience store industry," GasBuddy co-CEO Jason Toews said in a statement.

In addition, Rutters.com now boasts mini Web sites personalized for each Rutter’s store, complete with GasBuddy-observed gas prices, store hours and features, promotions and job openings. Moreover, customers can review any store based on six criteria, providing feedback regarding their store experience at Rutter’s, the company stated.

“We are excited to see how our customers react to these new technologies and look forward to their feedback as we continue to enhance this fun, full-featured set of web and mobile applications,” Hartman said.
