Rutter's Continues 40th Anniversary Celebration
HANOVER, Pa. -- With the opening of its new Penn Township location in October, complete with made-to-order stir-fry, omelets and fajitas, Rutter’s will redefine its approach to quick-service meals and convenience.
Construction began this week on the 5,200-square-foot store that was once home to a State Farm Insurance location. The new store will replace a 1,500-square-foot nearby location and include a car wash and 16 fuel pumps, reported The Evening Sun.
The company’s new approach coincides with its 40th anniversary. The paper reported that Rutter’s will invest upwards of $55 million in the coming year to build five more stores and replace five others with the more modern concept. To date, the company operates approximately 50 convenience stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and Lancaster counties. Over the past year, Rutter’s opened updated stores in Dillsburg, York and East Berlin.
Chief Executive Office and President Scott Hartman told the paper that the idea to enhance offerings, including using a wok, came as a result of a trip to Ireland which he said is known for having "very interesting and progressive" convenience stores.
"We have had a very nice response, some surprised responses as people didn’t expect to see that level of cooking and other extensive offerings," Hartman told the paper with regards to the companies latest store openings. "The response has been favorable."
The new platform allows customers to select their own ingredients for omelets, stir-fry dishes, fajitas as well as choose among a variety of sandwiches, wraps and subs. According to the company’s website, the store will feature freshly made bread, a premium-coffee island, a seating area, and a surcharge-free M&T Bank ATM.
