Rutter's Celebrates Store Opening With Discounts, Donations

YORK, Pa. -- The newest Rutter's Farm Store, in Waynesboro, Pa., opened this week and celebrated by donating $1,000 each to five community organizations in Waynesboro and offering gasoline at discounted prices for an undetermined period of time.

“Our gas prices will always be competitive, but we wanted to give customers an extra incentive to stop by and see what Rutter's is all about,” said Scott Hartman, president of York, Pa.-based Rutter's Farm Stores, which operates 50 convenience stores. “We look forward to a long relationship with the Waynesboro community.”

The recipients of the charitable donations include:

-- New Hope Shelter; money earmarked for the purchase of food, cleaning supplies and paper supplies.

-- Waynesboro Ambulance Squad; money designated for the squad's capital campaign, which will fund a new building.

-- Waynesboro Fire Department; money for the purchase of 700 feet of fire hose. The hose will be used in conjunction with a new engine.

-- Waynesboro Police Department; money for the purchase of breath-alcohol testing equipment. This will give the department a second unit for field-testing instances of DUI and under-age drinking.

-- Waynesboro Welfare Association; money for the purchase of food and clothing.

The 4,587-square-foot store had been under construction since December. Rutter's has transformed what had been an abandoned car dealership into a state-of-the-art convenience store, complete with 12 fueling locations covered by an illuminated canopy.

The store, which is open 24 hours daily, has approximately 20 employees. It offers Rutter's proprietary Famous Express Deli and Famous Express Grill, a coffee bar with latte and cappuccino, fountain soft drinks, coolers and freezers, men's and women's restrooms and indoor seating for 16. It is the first Rutter's to feature two sets of automatic doors to make it easier for customers, many of whom are expected to be neighborhood residents, to come and go.

A grand opening, featuring food and beverage specials, is planned for August.
