Lee Raymond, chairman and chief executive of Exxon Mobil Corp., will retire at the end of this year, the company announced.
Raymond, 66, has been with the company for 42 years, including 21 years as a director. The board of directors expects to name current company president Rex Tillerson, 53, as his successor.
Raymond joined the company in 1963 after he received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota.
His ascent to the top featured several executive posts with the company, including president of Exxon Nuclear in 1979, president of Esso Inter-America in 1983, company president in 1987 and chairman in 1993.

In other people news, Anheuser-Busch Inc. announced two changes to its senior management organizational structure, both designed to enhance the company's connection to consumers and its presence as the producer of the world's top-selling brands of beer.
August A. Busch IV, president of Anheuser-Busch, announced the creation of a new position, executive vice president, global industry development, and named Robert C. Lachky, current vice president of brand management and director of global creative, to the position. This newly created position will be responsible for representing Anheuser-Busch with alcohol beverage industry groups nationally and abroad, and will work to enhance the overall image of the beer industry with both the public and within the industry.
"Because this individual will serve such an important function in representing the beer company, finding the right person to take on the role was a challenge. What we needed was an individual of credibility and stature who can represent the company and the industry in a comprehensive, consistent and proactive manner. Robert C. Lachky has accepted the position, which will report directly to me," said Busch.
In his new role, Lachky will draw on his many years of experience as head of the company's creative development team. "Bob has been the voice of Anheuser-Busch via our advertising and creative messaging. This new role allows him to channel that wealth of creative talent into another area of critical importance to the company's success," Busch added.
Assuming Lachky's prior position as vice president of brand management will be Marlene V. Coulis. Coulis is the first woman and the first Latino in the company's history to hold this position.
"I am thrilled to have Marlene advance to this new role. She brings with her not only an extensive background in consumer research and brand marketing, but a decidedly new perspective on connecting with today's contemporary adult consumer," said Busch.
R. J. Reynolds Tobacco
R. J. Reynolds Tobacco has named Mike DiCio to director of trade relations, replacing Tom Trader who retired on July 31.
Rick Baker, director of trade marketing, said, “R. J. Reynolds has a solid reputation for running top-quality customer events and we want to build on that tradition going forward. Mike comes with excellent credentials with prior experience in this area at both Brown & Williamson and BAT Japan.”
Reporting to DiCio will be Tim Walsh, manager of trade relations; Brenda Carter, assistant manager of trade relations, and Linda Speaks and Anne-Marie Ohnimus, coordinators. Baker added, “Our customers and our relationships with them are extremely important to us and we have an excellent team to keep us in the forefront of trade relations activities.”

Finally, Steven Hostetter has joined Executive Leadership Solutions, an executive search firm that specializes in executive recruitment for the convenience store, petroleum and travel center industries, as a senior executive recruiter.
Hostetter previously served as executive vice president and COO of DB Companies Inc. of Rhode Island and Kangaroo Inc. of Georgia. He began his career in the convenience store industry as a store manager for Sheetz Inc., where he was later promoted to merchandising manager, regional manager and then director of operations.
After Sheetz, he was the president of his own chain of 12 convenience stores (Hostetter Oil of Florida). After selling that venture, Hostetter joined Circle K as a division president.
