New Season, New Brew

Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. is enhancing its lineup of seasonal beers with the rollout of a new summer brew, Beach Bum Blonde Ale. The product features a rich golden color and slightly spicy and malty taste.

The American blonde ale is brewed at the Anheuser-Busch Fort Collins, Colo. brewery and has 5.4 percent alcohol by volume. The new offering is the St. Louis brewer's fourth seasonal brew, matching the number of seasonal beers produced by Anheuser-Busch's top domestic competitor, Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing Co., according to bizjournals.com. Miller competes in the seasonal beer category through its Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co. subsidiary in Chippewa Falls.

Anheuser-Busch rolled out its first seasonal beer, Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale, sold under the Michelob brand, in spring 2005. Seasonal beers allow the large breweries to compete in a growing specialty craft beer market, industry observers have said. Anheuser-Busch's other seasonal brews are Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale and Spring Heat Spiced Wheat.
