Heineken USA Sponsors Hispanic Awards

NEW YORK -- Heineken USA and cerveza Tecate partnered with The Hispanic Heritage Foundation to sponsor the 22nd annual Hispanic Heritage Awards, which recognize Latinos who are achievers, visionaries and make a difference in their communities, Heineken stated.

"We are proud to be a part of this wonderful celebration of Hispanic individuals who make a difference in their communities," Dan Tearno, senior vice president chief corporate relations officer for Heineken USA, said in a statement "Heineken USA and The Hispanic Heritage Foundation share common goals and values. This is just one example of how we can join forces to recognize the contributions of those who strive to give their community and themselves a good name."

During the award ceremonies held on Capital Hill in Washington, D.C., Tearno and Texas congressman Silvestre Reyes of El Paso presented the 2009 top Sports Award, which went to Oscar de la Hoya for his achievements in boxing and his efforts to create a connection with his hometown of Los Angeles, while also remaining authentic to his Mexican heritage and inspiring all who follow him to lead productive and rewarding lives, the company stated.

Following the award presentation, Heineken and Tecate toasted the honorees at a reception featuring a special menu prepared by "Top Chef Master" Rick Bayless. Heineken USA also offered guests a ride home through the Heineken Safe Call Program.
