Georgia Counties Considering Sunday Alcohol Sales

ATLANTA -- Two Georgia counties, Loganville and Cherokee, may put the issue of allowing Sunday alcohol sales on the ballot this November, reported WSBTV.com. This follows Governor Nathan Deal's statement that he will sign legislation allowing referendums on the matter sometime in the next 40 days.

Cities like Kennesaw and Smyrna are also considering whether to support Sunday liquor sales, according to the report. Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon spoke in support of such a vote. "I think everyone is supportive of giving the citizens the opportunity to vote on this law," said Bacon.

Last week, Governor Deal said that while he sees the issue as one of local control and will sign the legislation, if a referendum on Sunday alcohol sales comes up for a vote in his community, he will vote against it.
