CSNews Webcasts 2008 Forecast Study

NEW YORK -- Convenience Store News and ThinkResearch are teaming up to present the c-store industry's only forecast study in a live Webcast on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. EST. This online presentation will allow c-store executives to view the data, listen to explanations and ask questions of the presenters without leaving their offices.

The CSNews annual study is of great importance as c-store retailers head into 2008 when the very real threat of recession looms over the U.S. economy. The housing bubble has burst, the value of the dollar continues to fall, foreclosures are rising and consumer confidence is starting to wane. The price of oil continues to rise and retailers are worried about the impact of this and other factors on consumer spending.

"Consumers are nervous," said Maureen Maguire, president of ThinkResearch and the economist who crunches data from a variety of sources to arrive at the CSNews Industry Forecast. With the cost of retail gas and home heating oil expected to rise, there needs to be a tradeoff, according to Maguire, who pegs the likelihood of a recession at 30 percent. But where is it going to come from? What are consumers going to cut back on?

It looks like 2008 will be a real test of whether the convenience store industry is really "recession-proof."

Don Longo, Editor-in-Chief, Convenience Store News, and Maguire will be joined by Gary Braaten, CHS/Cenex, manager of retail support and a CSNews editorial board member as they present and discuss the findings of the CSNews Industry Forecast. Elliot Markowitz, Editorial Director, Nielsen Digital Events, will serve as moderator.

In addition to the macro-economic projection, Webcast participants will learn about sales and volume growth of key convenience store product categories: motor fuel, tobacco, malt beverages, confectionery and snacks.

The cost of the Webcast is $89 and participants will also get a free download of the CSNews Industry Forecast Study written report, with slides. The report alone normally sells for a $199.

This Webcast is sponsored by Just Born, makers of Peeps, Mike & Ike, Hot Tamales and other popular candies.
